This was written for the Second Starburst Challenge at Terra Firma, which required you to write about one of the Farscape characters as a child, preferably with some foreshadowing. This was actually inspired by Old John's story about camping in Maine with his father in The Locket.
I tell you, I've never done so much research for a fic before -- especially not for one that's not even 1500 words long! Then again, I've never written a period piece before, either....
Many thanks to CretKid, CrystalMoon, Crash and ScaperRed for sharing some family history/reminiscences of "The War," and to Crash for taking a look at my rendition of Maine.... And who knew you could google "1940's boys clothing"? Blame me for any historical inaccuracies (I took at least one liberty, but I don't think it's important, LOL!)
