Stand and Wait series

2003-08-29

Rating: PG
Setting: About 6 cycles post-Bad Timing
Spoilers: Through Bad Timing
Summary: Aeryn appears on Jack Crichton's doorstep -- with 2-1/2 kids, and no John....
Awards: 2004 Sparkys, Stand and Wait series, Best Action-Adventure, Long (First Place) and Best Series (Second Place), this story, Best Characterization, Aeryn (Second Place)
If you've read the little (depressing!) ficletini, Doorbell, this is the longer, more upbeat story I mentioned! I just had this image of Aeryn, standing on Jack's doorstep, without John, and wondered how she would cope with allowing him to face trouble, alone.... The next story in this series, Needful Things, tells what John was up to during this time, but this is Aeryn's story!

Rating: R for language and some violence
Setting: about 6 cycles post-Bad Timing and simultaneous with my fic ...Who Only Stand and Wait
Spoilers: Through Bad Timing
Summary: Grayza uses Crichton's family and friends as leverage to get him to build her a wormhole weapon.
Awards: 2004 Sparkys, Entire series, Best Action Adventure, Long (First Place) and Best Series (Second Place); this story, Best Characterization, John (Second Place)
This story started out as part of ...Who Only Stand and Wait. I eventually decided that the two tales -- Aeryn's and John's -- needed to be separated. They're very different stories, but this one tells the story of what John was up to while Aeryn was agonizing over not being able to be there to watch his back....

Rating: G, maybe PG
Setting: About 6 cycles post-Bad Timing, the evening after my fic Needful Things
Spoilers: Through Bad Timing
Summary: John gets the chance to tell his father things he didn't manage to talk about when he was last on earth in Terra Firma.
Awards: 2004 Sparkys, Stand and Wait series, Best Action-Adventure, Long (First Place) and Best Series (Second Place)
I kept intending to write a shippy epilogue to ...Who Only Stand and Wait and Needful Things. But Jack just kept horning in. If I had J&A doing some cuddling (because John wasn't ready to talk yet), when Aeryn got up to do something, Jack would come over to try to talk to John. He was so dang insistant, I finally let him have the fic!

Rating: PG
Setting: About 6 cycles post-Bad Timing, immediately after my fic Sons and Fathers, Fathers and Sons
Spoilers: Through Bad Timing
Summary: John and Aeryn get some time to deal with the events of the past few days.
Awards: 2004 Sparkys, Stand and Wait series, Best Action-Adventure, Long (First Place) and Best Series (Second Place)
I'd intended a shippy epilogue for this series, and this gave John a chance to fess up to what he'd done while he was away. I like that it gave John and Aeryn the chance to interact like people who've learned how to work things out! This is currently the last story in the series, but I have a soft spot for this universe, and may visit it again one of these days.
